So how do you choose an agency in Atlanta for SEO work on your website?

1)  Does the Atlanta optimization SEO service use any black hat or spamming techniques such as :

• Keyword stuffing ( Did you know that packing long lists of your targeted keywords and nothing else onto your site will get you penalized eventually by search engines?)
• Invisible Text: (Did you know that some SEO firms try to cheat the system by putting lists of keywords in white text on a white background in hopes of attracting more of the search engine spyders to visit your site. This is a definite NO!)
• Doorway Pages : (Imagine creating an invisible page that only an internet spyder can see. This page has all of your keywords on it and is designed to trick the spyders into considering your website as important)

• Directory submission is one way to get your website indexed...however it needs to be  submitted by hand (not by automatic software) and it needs to be done slowly and steadily over several weeks and months to be effective.

4) Do they have a website or did they contact you unsolicited via email?

• Just last week I was contacted by an SEO firm that wanted to help me with one of my niche sights that have nothing to do with search engine optimization. They had a generic email address at hotmail and they offered no website to check them out. I called just for the fun of it and they wanted $600 a month without even looking at my site! Buyer Beware!
• While email marketing can be an effective technique to contact small businesses...make sure they have a real website ...with a real phone number so you can check them out!

5) Do they offer a complimentary onsite and offsite SEO analysis of your site in writing?

• Will they just email you a "canned" software generated report on your statistics...
• Or will they hold your hand and review every line of the report and answer your questions.
• Will they walk you step by step thru your website and make onsite optimization recommendations too?

6) Do They Guarantee Your Site Ranking # 1 on Google?

• No one can guarantee perpetually ranking #1 on Google. Sure they may do it for a few days....but they usually involve black hat SEO techniques. No one can guarantee the #1 position with Google. Because Google is a moving target. They specifically change their algorithms to keep one step ahead of the black hat SEO companies. 
• Other times such #1 rankings have nothing to do with SEO...but are really a PPC campaign (pay for click) service in disguise.

7) How will they decide which keywords to optimize your website for?

• Here is a little trick that SEO agencies will use to say they got you a number one placement on GOOGLE. They will pick a long phrase that no one else is using or for that matter no one else is searching for. As an example they might use the name of your company. This would not be hard to rank #1 for very quickly. 

8) Do they offer SEO client references for you to talk to?

• Ask if they were happy about the results from the service they performed?
• Are they still currently using their positioning service...If not--why not?
• Ask for their keywords and check for yourself how they rank on Google now.
• Would they recommend this service to their friends.

9) Ask the SEO firm for their list of keywords.

• Now go to GOOGLE and type them in and see where they come up. Remember...
• If they do not come up on page 1 for their keyword phrases...what does that say about their ability to help your business?
