Link Building Suicide

Are you making this link building mistake?

I did a free SEO consultation for a lady the other day that has a vacation home rental website. It has a nice layout, it has been on the web for may years and over 2000 back links. What was the number one problem that I saw?

The inbound text for each link was the name of her site. That is right… all 2000 links said the name of her website! Why does that hurt?

1- All the links point to her front page
2- They all say the same thing
3- The only say the name of the website.

The only way this helps is if you want to rank number one for your website name. And she did!
I typed in the keywords and there she popped up– Number 1! But who cares if no one is typing in the name of your website when searching for you.

Lesson learned?

Use descriptive keyword phrases that point to your website.
