What marketing lesson can you learn from this video?

What were you thinking when you firat started to watch this video and saw the cute girl dancing to the music? Did you watch the faces of the judges of the contest? They couldn’t believe that she was on the show wasting their time while she danced.

But then she opened her mouth and sang. It was like watching a mini Audry Heppurn in action. Everyone stopped and watched in amazement as the voice of this little angel filled the theater.

How can you use this lesson in your business marketing and advertising?

Sometimes first impressions can be WRONG. I wonder how many of the judges had their mind made up about her talent GEFORE she began to sing? I wonder how many people truned off this video BEFORE she began to sing.

When marketing and advertising your product or service lead with your best offer or user benefit first.

Don’t make the common mistake made of spending good money on an advertsising campaign and then promoting your companies name in BIG LETTERS across the top of the advert. That is the same as the little girl who thoght it was a good idea to start of dancing because she liked to dance… even though her talent was SINGING!

We have talked about the importance of building a USP for your business and then leading all marketing innitiatives with it. (Website, radio, newspaper advertising, emails etc)

Creating a USP that tells people why they should do business with you is the most important investment you can make in your business. I wonder how many prospects are looking at your advertising and simply turning away … not because they do not need your help … but because you didn’t clearly articulate why they should do business with you.

Don’t forget the real purpose of advertsing.

The real purpose of advertising is to move your prospect to action. Just like the audience in this video were moved to their feet for a standing ovation.

On the other hand, brand advertising is for businesses that have unlimited marketing budgets. In this economy you must make every advertising dollar count. Every piece of marketing communication should lead with your answer to a problem that keeps your clients up at night. Tell them why they would be crazy to do business with anyone else but you and then give them a darn good reason to contact you NOW.
