SEO Ranking Obsessions

Compulsive search engine ranking checking is not good for your health. There are some people that are checking their rankings every day waiting for the explosion from page 132 to page # 1. This will drive you crazy with an obsession to keep checking your rankings. In fact, it might even hurt your rankings.

Here are a few things to remember to keep you balanced in your thinking:

1- You are not going to magically jump up in the search engine rankings over night. It is just not going to happen that way. Ignore all the hype and empty promises of guaranteed overnight success on page 1. Even if they get you on page 1 it is only temporary, it’s not going to stick long term.

2- This is a long term project. So sit back , get a nice cold drink & enjoy the ride. Google values websites that have aged gracefully. It will take 3-6 months to see the results you want.

3- Steady wins the race: Don’t think that by building a few links you can now sit back and relax. Remember it was the tortoise that won the race, not the hare that did everything real quick right away. Plan on having a monthly budget to perform SEO maintenance. Remember the competition out there is getting fierce.

4- Don’t think that you will get to the top with your 5 page website, and a few back links alone. Google gives it’s blessing to those sites that have plenty of helpful and educational content. All the time you are spending checking the rankings can be used to add an article a day to your site or blog.
Remember, whoever has the most helpful information on their site usually wins. Google always rewards the authoritative site with high page rank and rankings.
